What is it?

Split bill (or bill splitting) lets a cashier divide one table order into several bills that settle independently. In Peppar a share is a real invoice, not a scratch calculation: it carries its own line items, its own CGST/SGST breakup, its own payment mode and its own invoice number in your consecutive series.

Challenges restaurants face

• Guests asked to settle one bill and sort the money out between themselves
• Cashier splitting on a calculator, then hand-writing two receipts with no GST breakup
• One order can record only one payment mode, so UPI + card + cash at one table is unrecordable
• Splitting by item is impossible when a dessert was shared between two people
• Re-splitting burns invoice numbers and leaves gaps in a series the GST rules require to be consecutive

How Peppar solves it

Peppar splits the bill at billing time only — the kitchen, KOTs and stock are never touched, so a split is fully reversible until money is taken. Each share is an unnumbered proforma you can print, re-split or void freely; the invoice number is allocated at settlement, so no number is ever burned by a re-split.

• Partial settlement tracked on the order — "2 of 3 paid · ₹511.10 due" — with a SPLIT n/N badge in billing and order history
• Per-share refunds by credit note, leaving the other shares untouched
• Void and re-split any number of times before settlement, with no gaps in the invoice series
• Each share prints to any ESC/POS thermal printer, or as an HTML bill

How it works

1. Open the table in fast billing and tap Split Bill
2. Pick a mode — Equal, By Item, By Amount or By Guest — and preview the shares live
3. Save: each share becomes a proforma bill you can print for the guest to check
4. Collect each share on its own mode, with an optional tip; the tax invoice number is allocated at that moment
5. The order moves to Partially Paid, then Paid as the last share settles
